Step 3. Pull the trigger and fly (and amaze your friends :). The results may vary a bit, so you should try out using different shot angles etc. for the best results. Jumping 5 times your own height might be a bit hard, but also very rewarding :).
Update: People really are amazing. In dm_overwatch, some players have jumped 20 meter high gravity gun jumps like nothing, which is much more that can be achieved by this method. The deskjumping method is probably the easiest to learn, however, and can bring satisfactory results with little practice (getting to the rocket launcher in dm_overwatch from the ground, for example). If you want to try out a more advanced method, try jumping up while you shoot the object with the gravity gun. The timing is really hard to get right, but the results can be totally incredible. Also try out different objects - the highest jumps I've seen have been done with radiators, but other objects like kitchen sinks have been said to work quite well too.
